Troubleshooting a Feeding Trough That Won't Feed Animals
Check the Basics First
If animals are not being fed, open the trough and confirm it actually contains food. An empty trough does nothing. Next, verify the food type matches the animals — wheat feeds cows and sheep, seeds feed chickens, carrots and potatoes feed pigs. A trough full of wheat will not feed your chickens.
Range and Access Problems
Animals must be close enough to the trough to be detected. If your pen is large, animals on the far side may be out of range. Move the trough to the centre of the pen, or add a second trough. Also make sure animals can physically reach the trough — solid blocks, fences or water between them and the trough can block pathing even when they are technically in range.
Age and Cooldown
Baby animals grow faster when fed, but adults already in a breeding cooldown will not respond until that cooldown ends. Finally, confirm the trough itself is not obstructed or unloaded; in a chunk that is not loaded, the trough pauses like any other block. Keep the pen within your loaded area or use a chunk-loading method if the modpack provides one.
