How to Craft and Place a Feeding Trough

Crafting the Trough

The Feeding Trough is the single block this mod adds, and everything else revolves around it. To make one, open a crafting grid and arrange wooden planks and wooden slabs in the shape the mod's recipe book shows — the trough is a shallow open container, so the recipe uses planks for the walls and slabs for the base. If you have JEI or REI installed, search "trough" and click the recipe to see the exact layout rather than guessing.

Placing It Where Animals Gather

Set the trough down on solid ground inside or next to your animal pen. It does not need to be on a special block, but placing it on a full block (not a fence or slab) keeps animals from clipping into it. Leave at least one open side so animals can path to it — a trough buried in a corner behind fences will starve your herd even when full.

Once placed, right-click the trough to open its inventory. Anything you put inside becomes the food source for nearby animals. Keep the trough within a few blocks of where your animals actually stand; animals wander, and a trough on the far side of a large pasture will only feed the ones that happen to walk past it.
