Understand How the Logical Height Affects Your Nether World

What Logical Height Means

The logical height (set at 256 blocks) is different from build height (384 blocks). Logical height determines where game mechanics like mob spawning, block updates, and chunk loading function at full capacity.

Practical Implications

Mob Spawning: Hostile mobs spawn primarily within the logical height range. Building above 256 blocks may result in fewer or no mobs spawning in those areas.

Block Behavior: Redstone, water, and other block mechanics work normally throughout the build height, but some edge cases may occur above the logical height.

Performance: The logical height helps the mod maintain performance by limiting certain calculations to a defined range.

Building Strategy

  • Place important farms and structures between Y-levels that fall within the logical height for reliable mob spawning
  • Use the space above 256 blocks for storage, decoration, or non-spawning purposes
  • Test your builds at different heights to understand how they perform
  • Reference your Y-coordinate constantly to know which zone you're building in

Understanding this distinction helps you design more effective and efficient structures in your Nether world.
