How to Configure Ambient Sounds Mod to Your Liking
Finding the Config File
Ambient Sounds Mod stores its settings in a config file located in your Minecraft instance's config folder. Look for a file named after the mod (typically ambientsounds or similar). You can open it with any text editor. If you prefer editing in-game, check whether your mod loader provides a Mod Options or Config button on the mods list screen — many versions of this mod support in-game config editing through that menu.
Key Settings to Adjust
Inside the config you will find options grouped by category. Common toggles include:
- Volume multipliers for different sound categories (biome ambience, cave ambience, weather, etc.). Lower these if ambient audio drowns out gameplay cues like mob footsteps.
- Frequency or interval settings that control how often ambient sounds trigger. Increasing the interval makes the world quieter; decreasing it makes it busier.
- Per-category toggles letting you disable specific sound types — for example, turning off bird songs while keeping cave reverberation.
- Dimension or biome filters, if present, so you can mute ambience in the Nether or End while keeping it in the Overworld.
After editing, save the file and restart Minecraft (or reload via the in-game config screen if supported). Test by walking through a forest at day and night, then descending into a cave, to confirm each category behaves as expected.
