How to Farm Wither Skulls Efficiently in a Nether Fortress

Pick the right spot

Wither skeletons only spawn in Nether fortresses, so you must build your farm there. Look for a fortress corridor with a large dark floor area, or a crossroads where multiple corridors meet. A spot near a blaze spawner is convenient because you can farm blaze rods at the same time, but it is also more dangerous. If you find a fortress section that is mostly enclosed, that is ideal because it limits where skeletons can wander.

Set up a simple kill zone

1. Clear the corridor of other mobs and block off side passages so skeletons funnel toward you.

2. Place a few blocks at head height to break line of sight with ghasts outside the fortress.

3. Stand at one end of the corridor with your back to a wall so skeletons cannot surround you.

4. Kill each skeleton as it approaches and pick up the skull immediately.

5. Store skulls in a chest or shulker box near your Nether portal so a death does not cost you the whole trip.

Safety and efficiency notes

Wither skeletons apply the Wither effect, so bring milk or golden apples. Wear at least iron armor and use a shield. A single productive session in a fortress can yield enough skulls for several Wither fights, which is useful if you want multiple beacons or a large Nether Star supply.
