Testing Whether Alternate Current Is Actually Helping Your World

Set up a fair comparison

AC's benefit is invisible on small builds, so do not judge it by flipping a lever. You need a repeatable load and a way to measure tick time.

Steps

1. Build or pick a representative contraption: something with long wire runs, several comparators, or many parallel lines. A single simple door will not show a difference.

2. Measure baseline tick time with the contraption running continuously. Note the value while it is active, not while idle.

3. Toggle AC off (or test the same build in a world without it) and run the identical contraption for the same duration. Compare the active tick times.

4. Scale up: duplicate the contraption several times and repeat. AC's advantage grows with the number of wires and the complexity of the logic, so a bigger test shows the effect more clearly.

5. Keep the comparison honest: same world, same chunk loading, same number of entities nearby, same duration.

Reading the results

If active tick time drops noticeably with AC on, the contraption was spending time on redundant wire checks and update spam. If it barely moves, your build was not redstone-update-bound, and the bottleneck is elsewhere, such as entities, hoppers, or lighting updates.
