Designing a Good-Looking See-Through Skin

Transparent pixels behave differently from a normal solid skin, so a little planning helps the result look intentional.

Plan what shows through

  • Skin pixels are part of a 3D model. Through a see-through area you will see the inside faces of the model and whatever is behind the player.
  • Erase whole regions or clean shapes. Stray single transparent pixels look like holes.
  • Match edges. When you cut out an area on one face of a limb, check the neighboring faces so the cutout lines up.
  • Test small cuts first, such as a window on a torso or a gap in a sleeve, before making large areas transparent.

Know the limits

  • The mod brings back the old see-through pixel trick. It does not make you invisible like a potion does, because the unerased parts are still visible.
  • The effect depends on the game rendering your skin with the mod active. Players without the mod will likely see the normal, vanilla version of your skin.
  • Keep a solid backup copy of your skin in case you want to switch back or share it with people who don't use the mod.
  • On multiplayer servers, check the server rules before using large transparent areas, since some communities may not allow them.

Iterate by editing, saving, reapplying and viewing in third person until it looks right.
