How to Get Started with Alex's Delight: First Foods and Cooking Basics
Alex's Delight expands Minecraft's food system with animal- and mob-based ingredients, so your first goal is to figure out which mobs drop what and how to turn raw drops into edible meals.
Find Your First Ingredients
Start by hunting or farming the mobs the mod adds or uses. Bison, kangaroo, catfish, lobster, bunfungus, and even centipedes and maggots are all sources of ingredients. Kill or harvest them to collect raw items like Raw Bison, Raw Catfish Slice, or Raw Bunfungus. Many of these drop as raw meat that must be cooked before eating.
Cook Before You Eat
Raw items generally give poor hunger and may carry hunger effects, so always cook them. Use a furnace, smoker, or campfire to turn Raw Bison into Cooked Bison, Raw Catfish Slice into Cooked Catfish Slice, and so on. The smoker is fastest for meats.
Move Up to Meals
Once you have cooked basics, combine them into sandwiches, pastas, and stews. These multi-ingredient dishes usually restore more hunger and give better saturation than eating components alone. Keep a stock of cooked meats, bread or buns, and vegetables so you can assemble meals on demand.
Practical Tips
- Carry a stack of cooked meat for adventuring.
- Save rarer drops like Lobster or Kangaroo Shank for pasta and stew recipes.
- Set up a small mob farm or breeding pen near your kitchen to keep ingredients flowing.
