Improve Lighting in Dark Caves and Indoor Spaces
Increase Indirect Light Penetration
Dark caves should receive soft, bounced light from the surface. If your caves appear pitch-black despite nearby light sources, the indirect lighting (GI) settings need adjustment.
In shader options, find ambient light or indirect light intensity settings. Increasing these values spreads more soft light into shadowed areas. You can also look for a setting controlling how far light bounces travel—increasing bounce distance helps light reach deeper into caves.
Fine-Tune Shadow and Ambient Colors
Adjust the ambient color to match your preferred mood. Cooler (blue-tinted) ambient light feels natural for caves; warmer (orange-tinted) light creates a fantasy atmosphere. The mod supports both approaches.
If shadows appear too harsh, increase shadow softness. This is usually controlled by a penumbra or shadow blur setting. Softer shadows make caves feel more naturally lit by diffused light.
Visit a deep cave system to test changes. You should see gradual light falloff rather than abrupt darkness, with color tinting from nearby blocks visible on surfaces.
