How to Use Additional Lanterns for Decorative Path Lighting

Lining a Path

Path lighting is one of the most common uses for lanterns. With Additional Lanterns you can match the lantern to the path material — gravel paths get Cobblestone Lanterns, wooden paths get Crimson or wood-toned lanterns, and stone-brick roads get Deepslate Bricks or Andesite Lanterns.

Placement Pattern

1. Decide on spacing — every few blocks is typical, but leave room for the lantern's hitbox.

2. Place a fence post or short chain at each spot.

3. Attach the lantern to the top of the post or the bottom of the chain.

4. Alternate materials every other lantern for a subtle rhythm, or keep them uniform for a formal look.

Hanging vs. Post-Mounted

  • Post-mounted: Faster to build, good for gardens and farms.
  • Hanging: Better for covered walkways, bridges, and interiors.
  • Wall-mounted: Attach a chain to a wall block and hang the lantern beside the path for a lantern-on-a-bracket effect.

Color and Mood

Use Black variants for a night-time or spooky path. Use Amethyst or Emerald lanterns for a magical forest trail. Use Copper variants (including Exposed and Oxidized) for a weathered, rustic feel.

Maintenance

Lanterns don't burn out or need fuel, so once placed they're permanent. If you remodel, break the chain first to recover the lantern cleanly, then the chain links.
