Gathering Building Materials from Structures
Identifying Harvestable Blocks
Abandoned houses are constructed from standard Minecraft blocks—wood, brick, stone, and colored wool or concrete. You can harvest these materials using appropriate tools. Brick and stone blocks require a pickaxe, while wood and wool can be gathered with any tool or by hand.
Sustainable Harvesting
If you plan to use a house as a base, harvest selectively to maintain structural integrity. Remove decorative elements, damaged sections, and non-load-bearing walls first. Avoid removing support blocks that hold up roofs or upper floors unless you're prepared to rebuild that section immediately.
Tool Requirements
Bring a stone pickaxe or better for efficient brick and stone harvesting. A wooden pickaxe works but is slower. For large-scale harvesting, consider bringing multiple tools to avoid durability issues. Collect materials in stages if your inventory fills up—mark the house location so you can return for more.
Practical Limits
Remember that completely dismantling a house removes the structure's usefulness as a landmark or base. Balance material gathering with preserving the building's functionality for future use or as a waypoint in your world.
