Understand How Smooth Boot Changes Startup Behavior
What Smooth Boot Actually Does
Minecraft's default startup loads everything—textures, models, mods, configurations—in rapid succession, creating a massive CPU spike. Smooth Boot intercepts this process and redistributes the work.
The Technical Changes
Thread management: The mod adjusts how many CPU threads Minecraft uses at once during startup, preventing any single core from being overwhelmed.
Task prioritization: Background loading tasks are given lower priority, so the loading screen itself stays responsive.
Workload distribution: Instead of completing all startup tasks in sequence, work is spread across multiple frames of the loading screen.
CPU throttling prevention: By keeping usage steady rather than spiking, the mod prevents thermal throttling on systems with aggressive power management.
What Doesn't Change
Smooth Boot only affects startup performance. Once you're in-game, it has no impact on frame rates or gameplay performance. Your actual in-game FPS depends on your hardware and other mods, not Smooth Boot.
The mod also doesn't reduce the total amount of work—it just spreads it out more intelligently.
