Viewing Wood Texture Variations Across Different Log Orientations
Understanding Mirrored Log Textures
The 18w43a Wood Resource Pack uses mirrored textures on logs to create natural variation, similar to how stone blocks appear different depending on their placement. This means the same log type will display differently when oriented vertically versus horizontally.
How to See the Variation
1. Place several logs of the same type in different orientations—some with the axis pointing up/down, others pointing north/south or east/west
2. Look at the bark texture on each log; you'll notice the grain patterns and details appear mirrored or rotated
3. This effect is most noticeable on oak and spruce logs, where the bark detail is most pronounced
4. Build a small structure using mixed log orientations to see how the varied textures create visual depth
Why This Matters
This mirroring system prevents the repetitive, tiled appearance that comes from using identical textures on every block face. When building wooden structures, logs placed in different directions will look more natural and less uniform, giving your builds a more organic appearance without requiring multiple log block variants.
