Overview

No Tree Punching (NTP) is a Minecraft mod designed to add a layer of realism and challenge to the initial stages of survival. Inspired by the mechanics of TerraFirmaCraft, the mod's core principle is simple: Blocks do not drop items if broken with the incorrect tool. Punching a tree will no longer grant you wood; instead, you must scavenge for materials, craft primitive flint implements, and work your way up to standard vanilla equipment.

Key Features

  • Tool Necessity: Blocks require their designated tool to drop items (e.g., Axes for wood, Pickaxes for stone).
  • Primitive Progression: New early-game items like Loose Rocks, Flint Shards, and Plant Fiber.
  • Wood Processing: Logs must be processed into planks using tools rather than simple crafting.
  • Pottery System: A primitive method for creating containers and tools using clay and fire.
  • New Tool Types: Saws, Mattocks, Knives, and the Macuahuitl weapon.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get wood or planks without punching trees?
You cannot obtain logs or planks directly from trees; instead, craft a Flint Shard and use Flint tools to gather loose rocks and plant materials. Wood-based recipes are replaced by stone, clay, and ceramic alternatives present in this mod.
How do I get a Flint Shard?
Flint Shards are obtained by crafting or processing flint-related materials; they serve as the base component for Flint Axe, Flint Hoe, Flint Knife, Flint Pickaxe, and Flint Shovel.
How do I make Flint tools?
Craft Flint Axe, Flint Hoe, Flint Knife, Flint Pickaxe, or Flint Shovel using Flint Shards combined with Plant String or Plant Fiber in shaped recipes.
How do I get sticks or Plant String?
Sticks are not part of this mod's registry; use Plant Fiber and Plant String instead, which are obtained from plant materials and used in tool and crafting recipes.
How do I make a campfire?
Use a Fire Starter along with flammable materials to ignite a campfire; campfire cooking recipes are present for smelting-like food processing.
How do I light a fire or start a campfire?
Craft a Fire Starter and use it on valid fuel blocks to create fire or ignite a campfire for cooking.
How do I harvest crops?
Use a Knife (Flint, Iron, Gold, Diamond, or Netherite) to harvest crops; knives are the mod's cutting tools for plant-based harvesting.
What do Knives do and how do I craft them?
Knives are cutting tools available in Flint, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Netherite variants, crafted via shaped recipes using the respective material and a handle component like Plant String.
What is a Macuahuitl and how do I make it?
The Macuahuitl is a melee weapon crafted via a smithing_transform recipe, combining a base tool with upgrade materials.
How do I make a Clay Bucket or Ceramic Bucket?
Craft a Clay Bucket from Worked Clay, then smelt it to obtain a Ceramic Bucket; a Ceramic Water Bucket variant also exists for carrying water.
How do I get Worked Clay and Clay Bricks?
Worked Clay is a craftable/processable block used to make Clay Buckets, Clay Flower Pots, Clay Small Vessels, and Clay Large Vessels; smelting Worked Clay yields Clay Brick.
What are Loose Rocks and what do I do with them?
Loose Rocks exist for Andesite, Diorite, Granite, Stone, Sandstone, and Red Sandstone; they can be collected and crafted into corresponding Cobblestone blocks, Slabs, Stairs, and Walls via crafting or stonecutting.
