How to Make a Campfire and Cook Food
Building the Campfire
A campfire needs logs and sticks, so craft a Flint Axe first and harvest wood. Arrange logs and sticks in the standard campfire recipe in a crafting grid. Place the finished campfire on the ground. You cannot light it with bare hands — you need a Fire Starter.
Crafting the Fire Starter
The Fire Starter is a shaped recipe using sticks and Plant String (or sticks and planks, depending on your available materials). Craft it once and keep it in your hotbar. Right-click the campfire with the Fire Starter to ignite it.
Cooking on the Campfire
Raw food placed on a lit campfire cooks over time via the campfire_cooking recipe type. This is your only cooking method until you build a furnace, which itself requires stone from a Flint Pickaxe. Cook meat, fish, and potatoes here. The campfire also serves as a light source and a mob deterrent at night.
Smelting Later
Once you have a Flint Pickaxe, mine stone and build a furnace. Smelting recipes (three exist in this mod's data) handle ores and bricks. Clay Brick and Worked Clay come out of the smelting chain, feeding into Clay Bucket, Clay Small Vessel, Clay Large Vessel, and Clay Flower Pot. The campfire remains useful for bulk food cooking even after you have a furnace.
