Gear addons slot new equipment into a progression somebody else designed. They add armour sets, weapons and tools that use the parent mod's materials, stats and upgrade mechanics, so the new items fit the existing tiers instead of sitting beside them. Many are positioned as end-game content past the parent mod's final tier, with recipes to match.
