Cobblestone Variants and Stonecutting

Mine the Three Cobblestone Types

Mine stone with a Flint Pickaxe or better to collect Andesite Cobblestone, Diorite Cobblestone, and Granite Cobblestone. Each variant has its own slab, stairs, and wall forms:

• Andesite Cobblestone Slab, Andesite Cobblestone Stairs, Andesite Cobblestone Wall
• Diorite Cobblestone Slab, Diorite Cobblestone Stairs, Diorite Cobblestone Wall
• Granite Cobblestone Slab, Granite Cobblestone Stairs, Granite Cobblestone Wall

Use the Stonecutter

Place a stonecutter and feed it any of the three cobblestone blocks. The stonecutting recipes convert a full block into slabs, stairs, or walls of the same variant. This is the efficient way to produce shaped blocks without a crafting table.

Build With Loose Rocks

Stone Loose Rock, Andesite Loose Rock, Diorite Loose Rock, Granite Loose Rock, Sandstone Loose Rock, and Red Sandstone Loose Rock are the surface pickups you gather before you have a pickaxe. Use them for early crafting and as a renewable source of the matching cobblestone once you can mine.

Upgrade to Iron and Beyond

Smelt ore to get iron, then craft Iron Mattock and Iron Saw. The Mattock handles both axe and hoe duties, so it replaces two tools in your hotbar. Continue upgrading through Diamond Mattock, Diamond Saw, Netherite Mattock, and Netherite Saw using smithing_transform recipes at a smithing table. Keep one of each cobblestone variant in storage so you can craft any slab, stair, or wall on demand.
