Crafting and Using Knives, Saws, and Mattocks

Knife

A Flint Knife is your first cutting tool. Use it to split logs into planks and to process other materials. Knives come in Flint, Gold, Iron, Diamond, and Netherite versions. Higher tiers cut faster and last longer. The Macuahuitl is a knife variant worth crafting once you have the materials.

Saw

A Saw turns logs into planks more efficiently than a knife. Craft a Flint Saw early, then upgrade to Iron Saw, Gold Saw, Diamond Saw, or Netherite Saw. Use the saw on a placed log to produce planks. Saws are the primary wood-processing tool once you have one.

Mattock

A Mattock combines axe and hoe functions. Use it to chop wood and till soil. Mattocks come in Gold, Iron, Diamond, and Netherite. Craft one when you need a single tool for both jobs.

Clay Tool

A Clay Tool is used in early ceramic crafting. Combine it with clay to shape Ceramic Buckets and Ceramic Vessels before firing.

Progression Tips

Start with Flint tools, then move to Iron, Gold, Diamond, and finally Netherite. Each tier requires the previous tier's materials. Keep a spare knife and saw in your inventory — you will use them constantly for planks and other cuts.
