Minecraft Dungeons II

The 2026 sequel to the dungeon crawler — new campaign, new gear and the return of co-op for up to four players.

About Minecraft Dungeons II

Minecraft Dungeons II is the sequel to the 2020 dungeon crawler, released on 29 September 2026. It keeps the format of the first game — pick a level, fight through it from above, come out with gear — and builds a new campaign on top of it.

Mojang Studios first showed it at Minecraft Live in March 2026, then gave it a release date at the Xbox Games Showcase that June. It launched at US$29.99 on Windows, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and both Nintendo Switch generations, and arrived on Xbox Game Pass the same day. Before the announcement it had circulated under the working name Project Spicewood.

What is new since the first game

Builds instead of classes

3

There is no class to pick at the start — what you equip is your build.

Twelve combat slotsUp from six in the first game: one melee weapon, one ranged weapon, three artifacts, four armour pieces and three talismans.
Armour split into four piecesHelmet, chestplate, leggings and boots are separate, so stats can be mixed instead of coming as one set.
TalismansA new gear category with its own slots, giving passive bonuses rather than an ability you trigger.

Gear you work on

2

Enchantments are no longer fixed to the item you found.

Enchantment booksEnchantments are collected separately and applied at the Enchantsmith.
Re-rolling at the BlacksmithA piece of gear can be sent back to have a new buff added to it.

One connected world

3

The mission select screen of the first game is gone.

A single mapThe campaign runs across one contiguous world with dungeons placed in it, rather than levels chosen from a menu.
JumpingCharacters can jump — they could not in the first game.
The SiftA new dimension introduced by the sequel.

Co-op without stopping

2

Changes aimed at four people playing on one screen.

Mini-inventoryHeld on the D-pad up direction, it opens without pausing the game so the others keep playing.
Filling empty slots onlineOnline players can be added to a couch co-op session that has room left.

Combat

2

Fights are built to pressure a party rather than a single player.

Heavier enemy wavesEnemies hit harder and arrive in greater numbers than in the first game.
Copper MonstrosityA boss shown at gamescom 2026.

Reviews on release called it a steady improvement on the first game rather than a reinvention — better to play, but still prone to repetition over a long session.

How this branch is built

Unlike the main game, this branch has no data files to read, so the facts here come from public announcements and the pages below come from our own wiki. It grows as we confirm more.
