Enchantment Descriptions Mod FAQ

16 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on enchantment descriptions?
The mod works automatically once installed on the client — descriptions appear in item tooltips and on the enchanting table screen without any toggle. If nothing shows up, check that the mod is actually loaded and that no other tooltip mod is overriding it.
Why aren't descriptions showing on my enchanted books?
Descriptions only appear when you hover the book or open its screen, and only for enchantments the mod has text for. If a specific enchantment shows nothing, it's likely from another mod whose description hasn't been added yet.
Do other players need this mod for me to see descriptions?
No — it's client-side only, so you see descriptions on any server regardless of what others have installed. Nobody else needs the mod for your tooltips to work.
Can I see descriptions on the enchanting table before I commit?
Yes, the enchanting table screen shows what each offered enchantment does, so you can read the effects before spending levels. This is the main way to avoid wasting XP on an enchantment you don't want.
How do I compare two pieces of enchanted gear?
Hover each item in turn and read the tooltip descriptions side by side, or hold them in your inventory and compare the listed effects. The descriptions tell you what each enchantment actually does so you can judge which piece is better for your build.
Does this mod add descriptions for enchantments from other mods?
It shows descriptions for enchantments that have text registered, including many from popular mods, but coverage depends on whether that mod or a datapack provides the description. Unsupported enchantments simply show no extra text.
Will this mod cause lag or hurt my FPS?
No — it only adds text to tooltips and screens, so the performance impact is negligible. It doesn't run background processes or affect world generation.
Why do descriptions overlap or get cut off in my tooltip?
This usually happens when another tooltip mod is also adding lines, causing a layout conflict. Removing or reordering the conflicting tooltip mod, or adjusting its settings, typically fixes the overlap.
Can I turn descriptions off for specific items or enchantments?
The mod doesn't offer per-item toggles by default; it shows descriptions wherever they're available. If you want them gone entirely, you'd need to disable the mod or use a config option if one is provided in your version.
Does it work in singleplayer and on servers?
Yes, it works in both because it's entirely client-side. On servers you'll still see descriptions for enchantments you encounter, as long as the mod has text for them.
What does the Enchantment Descriptions Mod do?
It is a client-side utility that shows in-game explanations of what each enchantment does. These descriptions appear in the tooltips of enchanted items and enchanted books.
Is the Enchantment Descriptions Mod client-side?
Yes, it is a lightweight client-side mod. It adds enchantment descriptions to tooltips without needing to be installed on the server.
Which enchantments does the Enchantment Descriptions Mod support?
It supports all vanilla enchantments, in over 13 languages. Most modded enchantments are also supported.
Which Minecraft versions and loaders does the Enchantment Descriptions Mod support?
The mod file lists Minecraft 26.2 with NeoForge. The author's project page also lists Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across Minecraft 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3.
Where do enchantment descriptions show up?

Does the Enchantment Descriptions Mod work with modded enchantments?
Most modded enchantments are supported. Support for modded enchantments is added over time.
