Frequently asked questions

How do I get started with Just Hammers?
Craft a basic hammer from a common material like stone or iron using the mod's hammer recipe, then use it to mine normally. Once you have a hammer, you can start collecting the cores needed to upgrade it into reinforced, impact, or destructor variants.
What's the difference between reinforced, impact, and destructor hammers?
Reinforced hammers trade some mining speed for extra durability, impact hammers focus on breaking blocks faster, and destructor hammers have the largest area of effect for clearing wide swaths of terrain. Pick based on whether you want longevity, speed, or maximum coverage.
How do I upgrade my hammer with cores?
Combine your hammer with the appropriate core in a crafting grid or anvil-style recipe to convert it into the next variant. Reinforced Core, Impact Core, Destruction Core, and Reinforced Impact Core each unlock a different upgrade path.
Why is my hammer only breaking one block instead of an area?
Base hammers mine a single block; area-of-effect mining comes from impact and destructor variants, or from hammers that have been upgraded with the right core. Check that you're using an upgraded hammer and not a plain one.
Which material tier should I pick for my hammer?
Stone is a cheap starter, iron is a solid all-rounder, diamond offers better speed and durability, gold mines fast but wears out quickly, and netherite gives the best durability and mining performance. Match the tier to how much you plan to mine.
Can I combine reinforced and impact upgrades on the same hammer?
Yes — the Reinforced Impact Core exists specifically to give you both durability and impact-style mining in one hammer. Craft or obtain that core and apply it to get the combined variant.
My hammer keeps breaking — how do I make it last longer?
Upgrade to a reinforced variant using a Reinforced Core, or move up to a higher material tier like diamond or netherite. Enchanting with Unbreaking and Mending also helps if your setup supports it.
Does the hammer's area-of-effect break blocks I don't want broken?
Yes, AoE hammers mine in a radius, so they can destroy crops, decorative blocks, or builds if you're not careful. Aim away from anything you want to keep, or switch to a single-block hammer for precision work.
Is Just Hammers compatible with other mods and does it hurt performance?
It's a lightweight mod that adds items and recipes, so it generally plays well with other mods and won't noticeably affect performance. Conflicts are rare and usually only occur if another mod overrides the same recipes or materials.
Can I use hammers on blocks they aren't supposed to mine, like obsidian or ores?
Hammers follow normal tool rules, so they mine blocks appropriate to their material tier and harvest level. If a hammer won't break a block, you likely need a higher-tier hammer or a different tool entirely.
