How do I craft my first hammer?

Do hammers mine faster than pickaxes?

Can I use a hammer to mine obsidian and other hard blocks?
Yes, hammers work on all the same blocks that pickaxes do, including obsidian, ancient debris, and ores. Use the appropriate material tier (diamond for obsidian, netherite for ancient debris) just like with pickaxes.
What happens when I swing a hammer at crops?
Hammers instantly harvest crops in a 3×3 area, dropping all the crops and seeds at once. This makes farming much faster than breaking crops individually.
Are hammers good for fighting mobs?
