Frequently asked questions

Can I paint on any block or only certain ones?
You can paint on most solid blocks including stairs, slabs, and fences. Some blocks may not be paintable depending on their properties—if right-clicking with a paintbrush doesn't work, that block isn't supported.
How do I change my brush size while painting?
Right-click the air (not a block) while holding the paintbrush to open the brush settings menu, where you can adjust size, feathering, and drawing speed.
What does the color picker do and how do I use it?
Press R while holding the paintbrush to sample the exact color of any pixel under your crosshair. This lets you match colors from your surroundings or previously painted areas.
How do I save my painting and display it in my base?
Sneak and right-click on a painted block face with a Canvas Sheet to copy the image onto it. Then place the Canvas Sheet inside an item frame to display it like a painting.
What's the difference between the blend modes and when should I use each one?
Overwrite replaces pixels with your color, Additive brightens pixels, Multiply darkens them, and Erase removes color. Use Overwrite for normal painting, Additive and Multiply for shading effects, and Erase to fix mistakes.
Can I paint on both sides of a block or just the face I'm looking at?
You can paint each face of a block separately—top, bottom, and all four sides each have their own independent pixel canvas.
Does painting on blocks cause lag or performance issues?
Painting itself is generally lightweight, but having many heavily-painted blocks loaded at once may impact performance depending on your hardware and render distance.
Can I undo a mistake while painting or do I have to paint over it?
Use the Erase blend mode to remove unwanted pixels, or paint over them with the Overwrite mode using a different color.
Do my paintings stay on blocks if I break and replace them?
Paintings are tied to the block itself—if you break a painted block, the artwork is lost unless you saved it to a Canvas Sheet first.
