No — this mod prevents all axolotls from despawning automatically, whether named or not. You can keep axolotls without using a name tag.
How do I breed axolotls with this mod?
Feed two axolotls tropical fish (the same way you would in vanilla Minecraft), and they will breed and produce a baby axolotl. The mod doesn't change breeding mechanics, only prevents the parents from disappearing afterward.
What happens when an axolotl plays dead?
When an axolotl takes damage and plays dead, it becomes temporarily invulnerable and stops moving. Use a bucket of water on the axolotl to heal it and wake it up.
