Frequently asked questions

How do I start growing a bonsai tree?
Craft a Bonsai Pot or Small Bonsai Pot, place it down, then right-click it with a sapling to plant the tree. The pot will begin growing the miniature tree on its own from there.
How do I get the tree out of the bonsai pot?
Right-click the pot with an empty hand or a tool to harvest the grown tree and its drops. The pot stays in place and can be replanted with a new sapling.
What is the difference between bonsai pot and small bonsai pot?
The Small Bonsai Pot is a compact version that takes up less space and is meant for tighter builds or decoration. The regular Bonsai Pot is the standard size and is the one most players use for production setups.
Why isnt my bonsai pot growing anything?
Make sure a sapling is actually planted in the pot — an empty pot will never grow. Also check that the pot has the light and space it needs, and that you haven't disabled that tree type in the mod's config.
How do I change which tree is growing in the pot?
Break or harvest the current tree first, then right-click the pot with a different sapling to swap the tree type. You cannot change the tree while one is already growing.
Can I automate bonsai pots for wood and saplings?
Yes — bonsai pots can be hopper-fed and piped into with item transport, so you can automate planting, harvesting, and collecting drops. This is the main reason players use them for wood and sapling farms.
Do bonsai pots need water or dirt?
No — the pot is self-contained and does not require water, dirt, or a nearby tree to function. Just place it and plant a sapling.
Can I grow any tree in a bonsai pot?
Most vanilla saplings work, and many modded saplings are supported too. If a specific tree won't plant, it's likely not registered as compatible or has been disabled in the config.
Does the Bonsai Trees Mod work with other mods?
It generally plays well with mods that add saplings or item transport, since bonsai pots accept saplings and can be automated. Conflicts are rare but can happen if another mod overrides sapling behavior.
Will lots of bonsai pots lag my game?
A few pots are fine, but large automated farms with many pots can cause tick lag on weaker machines. If you're building a big farm, keep an eye on performance and consider spacing or limiting the number of active pots.
