How to Change the Tree Growing in a Bonsai Pot

Swapping the Sapling

Each Bonsai Pot remembers the sapling you planted in it and regrows that same tree after every harvest. If you want a different tree — say you started with oak but now want spruce — you need to replace the sapling inside the pot.

To do this, break the pot and pick it up, or interact with it in the way the mod allows to clear the current sapling. Once the pot is empty, right-click it with the new sapling. The pot will begin growing the new tree type immediately.

Planning Your Tree Selection

Different saplings give different drops, so choose based on what you need:

• Oak: reliable wood plus apples and saplings.
• Birch and spruce: clean wood with fewer extra drops.
• Jungle: good for vines and cocoa-related resources in some setups.
• Acacia and dark oak: useful for specific wood colors and crafting recipes.

If you are unsure which sapling a pot currently holds, watch what grows — the miniature tree matches its full-size counterpart. Keep a chest of assorted saplings nearby so you can quickly reconfigure pots whenever your building or crafting needs change. Because the pot never needs replanting after harvest, the only time you touch it is when you deliberately want a new tree.
