How to Craft and Place a Bonsai Pot to Start Growing Miniature Trees

Crafting the Pot

The Bonsai Trees mod centers on two blocks: the Bonsai Pot and the Small Bonsai Pot. The Small Bonsai Pot is the cheaper, entry-level option, while the full Bonsai Pot holds larger trees. Both are crafted from common materials — clay and bricks are the core ingredients, so gather clay from riverbeds or shallow water and smelt it into bricks before you start.

Open your crafting grid and arrange the clay/brick pieces in the shape the recipe calls for. If you are unsure of the exact layout, check the recipe book (the green book icon in your inventory) after picking up a brick — it will show the Bonsai Pot recipe automatically once you have the ingredients.

Placing and Using It

Place the Bonsai Pot on any solid block. Right-click it with a sapling to plant a miniature tree inside. The pot will begin growing the tree on its own — no dirt, water, or light level is required, which is the whole point of the mod. You can grow a full tree indoors, underground, or in a tiny base.

Once the tree matures, right-click the pot to harvest its drops. Different saplings produce different loot, so experiment with oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, and dark oak to see what each yields. The Small Bonsai Pot works the same way but is limited to smaller tree types.
