Frequently asked questions

How do I equip a backpack?
Craft or find a backpack, then right-click it in your inventory or click it into the Back Slot that appears next to your armor slots. Once equipped, items you pick up will automatically go into it.
What's the difference between leather iron and gold backpacks?
Leather backpacks hold up to 4 stacks of items and can be dyed any color. Iron and Gold backpacks hold up to 9 stacks and can be trimmed with armor trimmings to customize their appearance.
How do I dye a leather backpack?
Place your leather backpack in a crafting grid with dye, similar to dyeing leather armor. You can mix multiple dyes to create custom colors.
What happens when my backpack is full?
New items won't automatically enter your backpack—they'll go to your regular inventory instead. You'll need to remove items from your backpack or use a second storage method.
How do decorated pots work?
Equip a Decorated Pot to store unlimited amounts of a single item type. Decorate it with sherds to show others what you're carrying, but you can't unequip or place it while it contains items.
Can I place my backpack on the ground?
Yes—hold sprint (CTRL by default) and right-click on a block to place your equipped backpack in the world. Right-click it again to pick it back up.
What happens to my backpack when I die?
Your backpack drops at your feet as if you placed it there. If you're wearing a Pot, its items spill onto the floor; items that don't stack to 64 may be lost if there are too many.
Can other players take items from my backpack?
Yes—other players can right-click your equipped backpack to access it and remove items, so coordinate with your friends or keep valuables elsewhere.
Do backpacks work with other mods that add inventory slots?
Backpacks use the Back Slot, which is a standard Minecraft slot that most mods recognize. Compatibility depends on the specific mod, but most storage and inventory mods work fine alongside backpacks.
Can I have multiple backpacks equipped at once?
No—you can only equip one backpack or Pot in the Back Slot at a time. You'll need to swap between them if you want to carry multiple backpacks.
