To obtain a tamed dragon, a player must find a Stage 4 or 5 female dragon in an underground cavern, defeat it, and collect the egg it drops.

Hatching Eggs

  • Fire Egg: Must be placed in the center of a fire. It will hatch when the fire burns out or after a set duration.
  • Ice Egg: Must be placed in water that is surrounded by ice blocks. The water must freeze for the egg to hatch.
  • Lightning Egg: Must be placed in the rain or during a thunderstorm.

Taming Mechanics

Once hatched, the baby dragon will recognize the player who is nearby as its owner. Tamed dragons can be commanded using a Dragon Staff to stay, wander, or follow.

  • Feeding: Dragons eat meat (raw or cooked). To heal them, use Dragon Meal (crafted from bones and meat).
  • Growth: Dragons grow naturally over time, but their growth can be accelerated using Dragon Meal or halted using Sickly Dragon Meal.
  • Equipment: Tamed dragons can be equipped with Dragon Armor (Iron, Gold, Diamond, or Dragonsteel) and a Dragon Saddle for riding.
