How to Tame a Hippogryph

Find and Approach

Hippogryphs spawn in mountainous and highland terrain. Spot them gliding between peaks. Approach slowly on foot — sprinting or flying in scares them off. Keep a stack of raw meat ready, since taming is a feeding process.

Feed to Tame

Right-click the hippogryph with raw meat repeatedly. Each successful feed shows heart particles. If it rejects the food, back off a few blocks and try again — crowding it resets progress. Continue until hearts stop appearing and the hippogryph no longer flees when you approach.

Saddle and Fly

Once tamed, apply a saddle and mount. A hippogryph flies like a dragon: look direction steers, forward input climbs. It is faster than a horse over long distances and can cross oceans without a boat. Dismount on solid ground — dropping from height while mounted can hurt you if you land badly.

Breed and Maintain

Two tamed hippogryphs can breed and produce offspring. Feed the offspring raw meat to grow it. Keep tamed hippogryphs in a fenced pen when not in use so they do not wander into hostile terrain. Their feathers are used in crafting, so a small breeding pair gives you a renewable supply.
