How to Hatch a Dragon Egg Using Dragon Nest and Dragon Ice

Place the Egg Correctly

A dragon egg only hatches when it sits on the right surface. Place a Dragon Nest block down first, then set the egg on top of it. The nest is the anchor; an egg dropped on grass or stone will never progress.

Match the Element

Each egg needs its element present nearby. For an Ice Dragon egg, surround the nest with Dragon Ice and Dragon Ice Spikes so the egg stays cold. Fire eggs need heat sources around the nest. Lightning eggs need the storm element — keep the nest exposed to open sky so lightning can strike it. If the element is wrong, the egg sits inert indefinitely.

Once conditions are met, the egg periodically emits particles and eventually cracks. This takes in-game time, so build a small enclosure around the nest to stop mobs from walking over the egg. Do not move the egg once it starts cracking — breaking it resets progress.

After Hatching

A hatchling emerges and imprints on the nearest player. Feed it and keep it near the nest area until it grows. A grown dragon can later be equipped with a saddle for riding, and its drops include Block of Dragon Scales and Block of Dragon Bones for crafting.
