How to Build and Fuel a Dragonforge to Smelt Dragonsteel

Build the Dragonforge

A Dragonforge is built from element-specific parts. For a Fire Dragonforge, place Dragonforge Fire Brick to form the body, then insert a Dragonforge Fire Core and one or more Dragonforge Fire Apertures. Ice and Lightning variants use Dragonforge Ice Brick with a Dragonforge Ice Core and Dragonforge Ice Aperture, or Dragonforge Lightning Brick with a Dragonforge Lightning Core and Dragonforge Lightning Aperture. Keep the core exposed so you can reach it.

Feed It and Smelt

Dragonsteel is produced with the iceandfire:dragonforge recipe type, so a normal furnace will not work. Load the forge with the matching dragon blood or fuel source tied to that element, then place your input in the forge inventory. Fire Dragonforge output becomes Block of Fire Dragonsteel; Ice yields Block of Ice Dragonsteel; Lightning yields Block of Lightning Dragonsteel. Each aperture you add increases throughput, so a forge with several apertures processes a stack faster than a single-aperture build.

Use the Output

Break the resulting dragonsteel block down into ingots for gear. Dragonsteel blocks also serve as decorative building material. If a forge refuses to run, confirm the core element matches the brick element and the aperture element — mixing Fire Brick with an Ice Core produces nothing.
