Lighting the Space

Design n Decor includes lamps and colored velvet blocks that work well as interior accents. Lamps are your primary tool for making a machine hall readable — place them where they light the equipment, not just the ceiling. A lamp directly above a cogwheel assembly makes the rotation visible; a lamp in the corner does nothing.

Using Velvet as an Accent

1. Reserve velvet for small areas: a control room floor, a chair-height block beside a display board, or a strip along a wall.

2. Pair velvet with dark metal plating so the soft texture contrasts against hard industrial surfaces.

3. Keep velvet out of machine bays — it reads as a clean-room or office material, which is exactly the contrast you want.

Layering the Two

1. Light the machine floor with lamps on a regular grid.

2. Use a different lamp placement or color in the control room to signal a change of function.

3. Add velvet only in that control area.

The result is a build where lighting and material both tell the player which zone they are standing in, without needing signs.
