Breeding in Productive Bees works by placing two bees inside the same hive. The hive must have room, and the bees must be the same species to produce more of that species, or different species to potentially create a new one. Each breeding cycle takes time, and the offspring will be a baby that grows into an adult. You can speed this up with Honey Treats, which are fed to bees to boost their breeding rate.

Cross-Breeding for New Species

To discover new bee types, place two different species in the same hive. The result depends on the specific combination, so consult your recipe viewer (JEI or REI) to see which pairs produce which offspring. Many advanced bees require chaining multiple breeding steps, so plan your combinations carefully. Keep a written or in-game note of which pairs you have tried.

Manage Your Breeding Stock

Separate your bees by species into different hives to avoid accidental cross-breeding. Use Bee Cages to move individual bees between hives without losing them. If a bee is aggravating or produces unwanted effects, isolate it. Keep flowers and food available near every hive, since bees that cannot eat or find flowers will not breed. Expand your apiary gradually as you unlock more species.
