Frequently asked questions

How do I set up Better Compatibility Checker on my server?
Install the mod on both the server and the clients, then have the modpack author edit the config file (bcc-common.toml for Forge or bcc.json for Fabric) to set the modpack name and version. The mod will then compare these values when clients connect.
What do the green checkmark and red X mean on the compatibility screen?
A green checkmark means the modpack project ID and version ID on your client match the server's. A red X means they don't match, so you're likely running a different version of the modpack than the server.
Why do I see a red X when joining my friend's server?
Your client's modpack version doesn't match the server's configured modpack version. Update your modpack to the same version the server is running, or ask the server owner which version to use.
Do I need to install Better Compatibility Checker on the client too?
Yes, for the check to work properly it should be installed on both the server and the client. If it's only on the client, the mod falls back to the standard Forge compatibility implementation.
