Understand What Changed

Born in Chaos does not just add a few mobs — it makes the dark genuinely dangerous. Many of its creatures spawn in low light, ignore some vanilla safety assumptions, and hit harder than a zombie. Before you build anything fancy, treat your first night as a defensive problem.

Immediate Steps

1. Walls before windows. A two-block-high solid wall around a small footprint beats a pretty house. Use whatever you have — dirt, cobble, argillite if you found some.

2. Light everything. Torches inside and a ring outside. Several Born in Chaos mobs punish unlit gaps, so leave no dark corners in your shelter.

3. **Do not open the door at night.

4. Sleep early if you have a bed. Beds still work, but only if no hostile mob is nearby — clear your perimeter first.

5. Keep a stone sword and shield on your hotbar. Shields block a surprising amount from the mod's melee mobs.

What to Avoid

Do not wander at night looking for loot. Do not dig straight down into caves — several Born in Chaos mobs spawn underground and will swarm you in tight tunnels. Do not assume a single torch is enough; the mod's spawn rules are stricter than vanilla. Your goal on night one is simply to see morning.
