How to Get and Use the Animal Dictionary

The Animal Dictionary is the single most useful item in Alex's Mobs. It tells you where each mob spawns, what it eats, how to tame it, and what it drops. Craft it early.

Crafting the Dictionary

Craft it with a book and a piece of leather (or similar basic book recipe — check JEI/REI in your pack for the exact layout). Once crafted, hold it and right-click to open the index.

Using It Effectively

• Scroll through the mob list to find the creature you're hunting.
• Each entry shows the mob's spawn biome, diet, breeding item, and drops.
• When you encounter a new mob in the world, right-click it with the dictionary to unlock its entry if it isn't already visible.

Why It Matters

Many Alex's Mobs creatures have non-obvious taming items — the dictionary saves you from wasting rare resources guessing. It also documents special drops like Ambergris, Bison Fur, and Bone Serpent Bones, which feed into crafting recipes for armor, tools, and decorative blocks.

Tips

• Keep the dictionary in your hotbar while exploring new biomes.
• Cross-reference it with JEI to see what each drop crafts into.
• Some entries unlock only after you've seen the mob, so explore widely.
