Not every mob in Naturalist is friendly. Several are actively hostile or will retaliate if provoked, and a few are dangerous enough that an unprepared player will die. Knowing which is which is the difference between a fun safari and a death loop.

High-Risk Animals

  • Bears (Black and Brown) — territorial and hit hard. Do not approach a bear with cubs.
  • Alligators — ambush predators in and near water. Never swim in alligator territory without armour.
  • Great White Shark — ocean predator; avoid open water in its biome.
  • Lions, Tigers, Komodo Dragons — large carnivores that will chase you.
  • Scorpions (Desert and Jungle) — small but venomous; their sting applies a negative effect.
  • Snakes — some are venomous; a bite can poison you.

Staying Safe

1. Wear at least iron armour when exploring new biomes.

2. Carry a Capture Net — you can net a small threat instead of fighting it.

3. Keep a bucket of water or a shield ready; shields block most melee attacks from these mobs.

4. Do not attack a herd animal in front of its group — boars, bears, and similar will gang up.

5. Build a fenced base perimeter; large predators can path into open bases.

If You Are Bitten

Retreat, eat to regenerate, and drink milk if you have a negative status effect. Do not try to outrun a shark in water — get to land.
