How do I get started with maid storage sorting?
Craft a Request List and a Storage Define tool, then use the define tool to mark which chests your maids are allowed to access by right-clicking them. Once your storage area is defined, give your maid the Request List and she'll start sorting items into those chests during her downtime.
Do maids sort items automatically or do I have to ask them?
Both—maids will automatically sort items you drop on the ground into nearby chests when they're not busy with other tasks, but you can also use a Request List to ask them to find specific items from your storage.
How do maids know which items go in which chest?
Maids learn by scanning what's already inside each chest, or you can place an item frame with a filter on a chest to set strict rules about what belongs there. The filter frame tells the maid exactly which items are allowed in that storage box.
What's the difference between adding, removing, and replacing chests with the Storage Define tool?
Adding lets you mark new chests as accessible, removing prevents maids from opening specific chests, and replacing lets you swap out which chests are in your storage network—cycle between modes by sneak right-clicking the air with the tool.
Can maids pull items from Applied Energistics 2 systems?
Yes, if you have AE2 installed, maids can pull requested items directly from your ME terminals as part of their search, making them compatible with large automated storage systems.
How do I use the Memory Scanning feature?
Give a maid a blank storage list and she'll scan all nearby chests to create an inventory record showing exactly how many of each item you own, which you can then reference when making requests.
Why isn't my maid sorting items even though I set up storage chests?
Make sure the maid actually has the Request List in her inventory, the chests are marked with the Storage Define tool, and the maid isn't busy with another task—check her job assignment in the maid inventory menu to confirm the storage task is active.
Can I see what a maid is doing when she accesses chests?
Yes, the mod syncs chest opening and closing animations so you can watch your maid dig through storage in real time, making it easier to see which chests she's using.
What happens if I place item frames on chests without filters?
