Gather the Basics

Before you can cast anything, you need a few core materials. Mine Amethyst (found in amethyst geodes underground) to obtain Amethyst Dust and Charged Amethyst. Craft a Staff from wood planks and amethyst-related materials — different wood types (Oak, Birch, Acacia, Crimson, etc.) give you different staff variants, but any staff works to start. You will also want a Focus and some Pigment items, which are the colored dyes used to draw patterns.

Draw Your First Pattern

Hold your staff and right-click to open the casting interface. You will see a grid where you draw patterns with your mouse, similar to drawing glyphs. The simplest starting pattern is Mind's Reflection, which lets you read basic information. Draw the pattern, then release to cast. If the pattern is valid, you will see a visual effect and the hex will execute.

Understand the Cost

Every hex consumes media, a resource drawn from the environment around you. If you are in a media-rich area (near amethyst or certain blocks), your hexes will work. If not, you may need to place Amethyst Blocks or other media-generating blocks nearby. Start with simple hexes like Mind's Reflection and Compass Purification before attempting complex spells. Practice drawing patterns until they become muscle memory — the drawing interface is the heart of the mod.
