Hex Casting FAQ

Craft a staff (any wood type works) and a Focus, then hold the staff and right-click to open the pattern-drawing interface. Draw the pattern for your first hex, and it will consume media from your amethyst dust or nearby media sources.

Right-click with the staff in hand to open the drawing screen, then click and drag to trace the pattern's shape. Each pattern must be drawn accurately — a sloppy line will fail and waste the media.

Media is the energy hexes consume, stored in items like Amethyst Dust or in blocks like the Akashic Record. You can also draw media from the environment using certain patterns, or store it in amethyst-based blocks for later use.

Craft Ancient Scroll Paper into a scroll, then inscribe a pattern onto it. Right-click with the scroll to cast the stored hex without needing to draw it manually each time.

The most common causes are an inaccurate pattern drawing, insufficient media, or a missing Focus. Check that your staff has a Focus attached and that you have media available before retrying.

Pigments are cosmetic dyes that change the color of your patterns and staff visuals, while Focuses are required components that let your staff actually cast hexes. You need a Focus equipped to cast anything at all.

Set up an Akashic Bookshelf or Akashic Record near your casting area to store and retrieve patterns, and place amethyst blocks nearby for media storage. A dedicated space with your pigments, focuses, and scroll paper keeps crafting and casting efficient.

Hex casting is designed to work alongside other mods and is commonly included in modpacks. It doesn't require other mods to function, but some addons expand its pattern set and media options.

Hex casting itself is lightweight, but large numbers of active hexes, conjured blocks, or media-heavy setups can impact performance. Keep your media storage organized and avoid leaving many conjured blocks or lights running unnecessarily.
