Aether — Guide

Reaching the Aether

You do not need an achievement or a special item to leave for the Aether - you build a portal, much like a Nether portal, but out of a different material and lit a different way.

• Build the frame out of Glowstone. Stack Glowstone blocks into the same rectangular frame shape you would use for a Nether portal (a hollow standing rectangle).
• Activate it with water. Instead of using flint and steel, use a bucket of water on the inside of the frame. The water triggers the portal and fills it with the glowing gateway.
• Step through to be sent up to the Aether. Stepping back through the same portal returns you to the Overworld.
• The first time you build it, make sure you have gathered enough Glowstone - the frame uses the same number of blocks as a standard portal frame.

Raising a Moa

The Moa is raised from an egg rather than bred like a vanilla animal:

• Get a Moa egg. Moa eggs are found in the Aether (for example as loot or from wild Moas).
• Hatch it in an Incubator. Place the egg in an Incubator block and fuel the Incubator with Ambrosium to keep it warm until the egg hatches into a baby Moa.
• Feed it to grow. Feed the baby Moa Aechor Petals to help it grow into an adult.
• Saddle and ride. Once grown, put a saddle on the Moa and ride it. A Moa can flap to slow its fall and perform a limited number of mid-air jumps, letting you glide and hop between floating islands - your main way to cross the gaps safely.

Gear, Wings & Accessories

The Aether adds full tool and armor progressions plus special equipment and wearable accessories.

• Tool and armor tiers - Skyroot, Holystone, Zanite, and the powerful Gravitite sets, each stronger than the last.
• Special armor sets - Valkyrie, Neptune, and Phoenix armor, each granting its own bonus such as faster movement, easier travel through water, or fire protection.
• Wings and capes - wearable wings and other accessories that let you glide or grant special effects, worn through the mod's accessories system.
• Rings, pendants, and gloves - accessory items that give passive bonuses when equipped.
• Weapons and gadgets - darts and dart shooters, the Lightning Knife, the Notch Hammer, the Holy Sword, and more.
• Skyroot tools - Skyroot buckets, and other Skyroot utility items used with the dimension's own machines.

Gear is repaired and enchanted at the Altar using Ambrosium and Zanite rather than a vanilla anvil or enchanting table.

Dungeons & Bosses

The greatest challenges in the Aether are its three floating dungeons, each guarded by a boss and full of traps and loot.

• Bronze Dungeon - guarded by the Slider, a sliding block boss that charges across the arena. Beating it rewards you with loot and a dungeon key.
• Silver Dungeon - home to the Valkyrie Queen and her Valkyrie guards. It is a larger, tougher challenge with valuable rewards.
• Gold Dungeon - the largest dungeon, ruled by the Sun Spirit. Defeating it is a major milestone with powerful, unique rewards.

Inside the dungeons you will find traps, hidden treasure, dungeon keys that unlock loot rooms, and boss-only drops you cannot get anywhere else.

Required Library Mods

The Aether relies on several shared library mods to run, and they must be installed together with it. Without these libraries the mod will not load.

• Nitrogen (Internals) - a core internals library the Aether is built on.
• owo-lib - a library used for parts of the mod's UI and networking.
• Accessories - the accessory-slot system that powers the Aether's wings, rings, pendants, and capes.
• Cumulus - a menu and UI library used by the mod.

When everything is installed correctly, these libraries appear next to the Aether in your in-game mod list, which is the quickest way to confirm they are all present.

Tips

• Bring a water bucket. You need water to activate the Glowstone portal, and Skyroot buckets and water are useful throughout the dimension.
• Watch the edges. The islands float over a deadly void. Carry an Aerbunny or use Aercloud blocks as safety nets, and be careful near Zephyrs that push you off ledges.
• Raise a Moa early. A saddled Moa is the safest way to cross gaps between islands - hatch one as soon as you find an egg and an Incubator.
• Save Gravitite. It is the strongest material - prioritise Gravitite tools and armor for the dungeons and bosses.
• Use the Altar, not the anvil. Repair and enchant your Aether gear at the Altar with Ambrosium and Zanite.
• Clear dungeons in order. Work up from the Bronze Dungeon to the Silver and Gold Dungeons as your gear improves.
• Check your mod list if things look broken - confirm the required libraries are all loaded.
