How do I make my first lock and key?
Craft a Key Blank and a lock of your chosen tier in a crafting grid. Combine the Key Blank with the lock before placing it on your block—this will return both the lock and a cut Key that opens it. Place the lock on your chest, door, or container to secure it.
What happens if I lose my key?
You can craft another Key Blank and combine it with the already-placed lock to create a duplicate key. Alternatively, a Master Key will open any lock in the world, though it cannot be crafted and must be obtained through other means.
How does the lock picking minigame work?
Hold a lock pick and interact with a locked block to start the minigame. You'll see pins that need to be aligned—each wrong guess damages your lock pick's durability. Multiple lock picks can stack in one inventory slot, and only one pick takes damage per attempt.
Can I lock multiple chests at once?
Yes. A single lock can cover multiple adjacent blocks simultaneously, allowing you to secure an entire storage setup with one lock and key.
What's the difference between lock tiers?
Higher tiers have more pins (making them harder to pick), better explosion resistance, and greater durability wear on picking tools. Wood locks are easiest to pick with 5 pins, while Netherite locks have 14 pins and immunity to fire and lava.
Can I use a lower-tier lock pick on a higher-tier lock?
Yes, unless the lock has the Complexity enchantment applied, which prevents lower-tier picks from even attempting to open it. Otherwise, you can try picking any lock with any pick, but higher-tier locks have more pins to align.
What do lock enchantments do?
Enchantments add special effects: Shocking zaps failed pickers, Sturdy increases durability damage, Complexity blocks lower-tier picks, Silent removes the rattle sound, Auto-Pick grants a chance to open instantly, and Reinforced boosts explosion resistance.
How do I store multiple keys without filling my inventory?
Craft a Key Ring to hold multiple keys in a single inventory slot. This keeps your keys organized and saves space.
Can I lock modded containers and hoppers?
Yes. The mod works on any block in the world, including modded containers, furnaces, hoppers, trapdoors, and doors—not just chests.
