Frequently asked questions
How do I make a chimney?
Place any chimney block variant (Brick, Stone Brick, Terracotta, or Copper) vertically in your world. The chimney will automatically start emitting smoke particles once placed.
Why is my chimney not smoking?
Check if your chimney is receiving a redstone signal—chimneys stop emitting smoke when powered by redstone. If no redstone is connected, try breaking and replacing the block, or verify the mod is properly installed.
How do I turn off a chimney?
Send a redstone signal to the chimney block using redstone dust, a lever, a button, or any other redstone power source. The smoke will stop immediately while the signal is active.
What is the black stuff covering my chimney?
That's soot, which accumulates on chimneys over time as a visual effect. It's purely cosmetic and doesn't affect the chimney's function, but you can clean it off if you prefer.
How do I clean soot off a chimney?
Use an axe on the sooty chimney block to scrape off the soot. You may receive Black Dye as a drop, though it's not guaranteed every time.
Does wind actually affect the smoke?
Yes, wind direction and strength influence how chimney smoke disperses in the world. Wind is stronger during rain and thunderstorms, and calmer in the evening, creating dynamic smoke behavior.
Can I use different chimney types together?
Yes, all chimney variants (Brick, Stone Brick, Terracotta, and Copper) work the same way mechanically and can be mixed in your builds for aesthetic variety.
Do chimneys need fuel or power to work?
No, chimneys emit smoke automatically without requiring fuel, power, or any input—just place them and they'll start smoking.
Can I stack chimneys vertically?
Yes, you can stack chimney blocks on top of each other to create taller chimneys; each block will emit smoke independently.
Will this mod cause lag?
Chimneys use particle effects which are generally lightweight, but having many chimneys in one area may impact performance depending on your particle settings and system specs.
