The Nature's Compass is the core item of the mod, and crafting it is the first thing you'll want to do. The recipe is intentionally simple so you can get started early in a world.

Gathering the Ingredients

You need a regular vanilla compass plus a few natural materials. In most versions of the mod the recipe combines a compass with saplings and/or logs, arranged in a specific pattern on the crafting grid. Check JEI or REI in-game to see the exact layout for your version, since the recipe has changed slightly between releases. If you don't have a compass yet, craft one from iron ingots and redstone as usual.

Crafting and First Use

Once you have the ingredients, open your crafting table and place them according to the recipe shown in your recipe viewer. The result is a single Nature's Compass. Hold it in your hand and right-click (or use your interact key) to open its interface. From there you can search for a biome by name or scroll through a list. Select a biome and the compass will begin pointing toward the nearest instance of it, with a distance readout so you know how far you have to travel. If the biome doesn't exist in your current dimension, the compass will tell you rather than spinning uselessly.
