Finding the options
Name Pain is built around extensive configuration, which means most of what you see on screen can be tuned. Open the mod's config through your mod loader's config menu or the config file, and you will find settings that control how nameplates are colored and displayed.
What you can adjust
- Toggle whether health-based coloring is active, so you can turn the feature off if you prefer plain nameplates.
- Control how the coloring behaves, including the range over which colors shift as health changes.
- Adjust visibility-related settings that affect how villager and pet names are shown.
- Fine-tune display so nameplates suit your render distance and UI preferences.
A sensible approach
Change one setting at a time and check the result in-game rather than editing everything at once. Start with the health-coloring toggle to confirm the feature works the way you expect, then adjust the color behavior to taste. If you play on a server, remember that client-side display settings only affect what you see, not what other players see.
When to revisit config
Come back to the config if nameplates feel too busy during large fights, if you want subtler coloring for a more vanilla look, or if you want the coloring to be more aggressive so low-health targets are obvious. The defaults are a reasonable starting point, but the whole point of the mod is that you can shape it to your own preferences.
