Watch the Right Modules
Enable the FPS and memory modules first. FPS tells you how smoothly the game is rendering; memory shows how much heap the game is using. If FPS drops while memory climbs steadily, you likely have a leak or too many entities loaded. If FPS is low but memory is stable, the bottleneck is rendering or CPU.
Correlate With Position and Dimension
Turn on coordinates and dimension modules. Note where lag spikes happen — a specific chunk, a farm, or a dimension transition. Comparing FPS before and after entering an area isolates the cause. The biome and light level modules help too: huge light-update cascades or mob-dense caves often show as stutter.
Reduce Noise While Testing
Disable every module except the ones you are measuring. A minimal overlay makes changes easier to read. Change one variable at a time — lower render distance, unload a farm, or move away — and watch how the numbers respond. Because BetterF3 updates live, you get instant feedback. Once you find the culprit, re-enable your normal modules and keep playing.
