How to Craft and Use a Wand or Staff

Crafting Your First Wand

Wands and staves are casting tools that let you cast spells without holding your spellbook. To craft a wand, you need Arcane Ingots, Arcane Cloth, and a magical core item (often an Arcane Essence or a specific mob drop). The exact recipe varies by wand tier. Check the Inscription Table or your recipe book once you have the materials. Staves are stronger but require rarer materials like Mithril Ingots, which you obtain by mining Deepslate Mithril Ore and smelting it.

Equipping and Casting

Once crafted, equip the wand in your main hand. Open your spellbook and assign spells to the wand's slots. Each wand has a limited number of spell slots — typically fewer than a spellbook but with faster casting or higher power. To cast, right-click while holding the wand. You can cycle between assigned spells using a keybind (check your controls menu). Wands consume mana from your personal pool, just like spellbooks.

Upgrading and Enchanting

You can upgrade wands at an Arcane Anvil using Arcane Runes and other materials. Some wands have affinities (fire, ice, lightning, etc.) that boost matching spells. Use an Affinity Ring to further increase a specific school's power. If you find a better wand, transfer your spells by opening the spellbook and reassigning them. Keep multiple wands for different situations — a fire wand for offense, an ice wand for crowd control.
