Leaves are not appearing
If you see no particles at all, first confirm you are actually under a tree canopy that qualifies — the mod spawns leaves beneath trees, so standing in open sky will show nothing. Next, check the config: a very low density value, an empty whitelist, or a biome blacklist that includes your current biome will all suppress the effect. Verify you are in a biome the mod recognizes and that the mod is enabled in your client mod list. If you recently changed configs, make sure the file saved correctly and reload the world.
Reducing lag or stutter
The particles are purely visual, but large canopies with high density can still cost frames, especially on lower-end machines. Lower the density value first — this is the single biggest lever. If stutter persists, restrict the effect using the biome or block filters so busy areas like dense forests or your storage room generate fewer particles. Reducing your overall Minecraft particle settings in Video Settings also helps, since it caps how many particles render at once.
When to suspect a conflict
If leaves appear but flicker, vanish, or clash with another visual mod, test with only Falling Leaves enabled to isolate the cause. Remember the mod is client-side, so server-side performance is unaffected — any lag you fix here is your own client's.
