Effective Mod — Guide
Liquid Interaction Effects
The core of the mod revolves around how entities and the environment interact with liquids. These effects are calculated based on the size and velocity of the interacting object.
Water Splashes and Droplets
When an entity (player, mob, or item) falls into water from a height, a splash effect is generated. The size of the splash and the number of droplets produced are proportional to the entity's falling speed and physical dimensions.
- Ripples: Small ripples appear on the surface of water during rain or when small items are tossed in.
- Underwater Bubbles: Opening chests underwater now releases a stream of air bubbles. If a chest is placed above Soul Sand, it may occasionally emit bubbles randomly.
- Lava Splashes: In older versions of the mod, lava produced similar splash effects. However, these were removed in more recent updates to focus on water-based ambience and performance stability.
Glowing Plankton
In Warm Ocean biomes, splashes and ripples take on a bioluminescent blue glow. This effect extends to waterfall clouds and mist generated within these biomes, creating a magical nighttime atmosphere.
Cascades and Waterfalls
Waterfalls in Minecraft are traditionally static. Effective introduces the "Cascade" system to make them feel powerful and alive.
Waterfall Clouds and Mist
When water flows from a height into a pool, it generates visual particles and ambient sound. The intensity of these effects depends on the depth of the receiving water.
| Effect Type | Trigger Condition | Visual Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| Waterfall Cloud | Water flowing into a 2-block deep source. | White, frothy particles at the base. |
| Waterfall Mist | Water flowing directly from a height into source blocks. | A fine, rising fog around the impact site. |
| Colored Mist | Water flowing into a source block placed above Wool. | The mist takes on the color of the Wool block. |
Lapis Lazuli Interactions
A unique mechanic allows players to manually trigger cascade effects along an entire stream. By updating a Lapis Lazuli Block (placing, breaking, or moving it with a piston) near the source of a water stream, the mod will force the entire connected flow to display waterfall particles, regardless of the usual depth requirements. This is ideal for creating custom geysers or hot springs.
Ambient Illuminations
Integrated from the Illuminations mod, these features add life to the world during the night and in dark dimensions.
- Fireflies: These appear in Forests and humid biomes like Swamps. Their color and frequency vary by biome; more fireflies spawn in high-humidity areas. They are naturally attracted to light sources.
- Will o' Wisps: Rare, glowing orbs that float through Soul Sand Valleys in the Nether, adding a ghostly aura to the dimension.
- Chorus Petals: In the End, Chorus Trees will occasionally shed petals. Breaking Chorus Flowers also releases a burst of these particles, which slowly drift to the ground and create ripples if they land on water.
- Eyes in the Dark: During the Halloween season, players may occasionally spot glowing eyes peering from unlit areas. These are purely visual and vanish if approached or illuminated.
Entity and Creature Enhancements
Several existing mobs receive visual overhauls or new ambient behaviors to make them feel more integrated into the world.
Glow Squid Overhaul
The Glow Squid receives significant atmospheric upgrades: * Hypnosis: Looking directly at a Glow Squid can cause a subtle screen-tinting effect, simulating a hypnotic trance. * Rainbow Glow: Naming a Glow Squid "jeb_" causes its glow to cycle through a rainbow spectrum. * Dynamic Lighting: Glow Squids emit a faint, real-time light around them as they swim (requires compatible lighting engines).
Screen Shake Effects
To emphasize the power of certain creatures, the mod introduces a screen shake mechanic triggered by specific actions: * Warden: Roars and Sonic Booms cause intense shaking. * Ravager: Roars during raids trigger a localized shake. * Ender Dragon: Roars during the final boss fight create a cinematic vibration.
Miscellaneous Visuals
- Allay Trails: Allays leave behind a faint, magical trail as they fly.
- Spectral Arrows: These arrows now have emissive trails that glow in the dark.
- Sculk Dust: Sculk blocks will occasionally release dark, floating dust particles.
- Parry Effect: Deflecting a Ghast fireball triggers a high-contrast visual flash.
